On Voltaire

Voltaire is god, and think we can all agree. Who doesn't love a gothy, pirate?
But besides being adorable, Voltaire makes some pretty good points. In an interview, he describes what eh thinks goth is. As a younger person i have wondered this for a while, hopping it would guide me on my magical gothy quest, and Voltaire is now my guru. and come on, look at that face.

Goth Subcultures

So this is just a general overview of the different styles of music and clothing of different goth subcultures. By no means does this page cover all of them or is accurate. I never like to dress only trad goth or only Victorian. I switch it up all the time. I let myself create my own style. But looking at these quick descriptions can be really helpful.
I took a lot of the pictures and the info form the amazing site Goth (stereo) Types
http://www.blackwaterfall.com/viewall.php

from Goth stereo types
The Trad (traditional) Goth
Starting in the 80's, the original goths favor the earliest days of the goth scene.
Fashion is based heavily on the Punk era but different. Fishnets, heavy makeup, huge mohawks and back combs, leather and band tees.
Music is mainly from the 80's. Soixsie and the banshees and the Sisters of Mercy are widely popular
siouxsie and the banshees

The Romantic Goth
Ah, romantics you gotta love them. Instead of idolizing the original goth scene they focus on the dark and mysterious. Instead of being goth, they are more gothic. Favoring Poe, and other classic writers, cathedrals and old films. Poetry and art are also widely popular.
Emotional and dark, Romantic goths dress in velvets and lace. They see the beauty in the dark and in many was resemble the Romantic movement in the late 1800's. Dark candles, skulls and black roses are classic home decor.
Music is ethereal or folk instead of the gory and loud. But classical music is always loved.

Cyber Goth
Well i am not one for bright colors but some are, and we must respect their colorful wishes. Completely opposite of the dark brooding nature of many goth subcultures Cyber goths usually wear neon colors.
They will sometimes wear multy colored yarn dreds, and of course respirators are always welcome.

I will be posting way more often as August comes around, FYI

Stories

Im starting this project for this blog were i will be taking stories form anyone who wants to send them in. They can be anonymous or not. You don't have to be goth or punk, i want all subcultures represented here. We are all finding our paths in life so please be kind if you are going to post. We have our own individual music tastes, style, interests, regardless of what subculture we associate ourselves with.
Please don't be afraid of telling sad stories or belly hurting funny ones. I am hoping to have stories that explain that the teenage years are far from perfect. We are not everything that you're parents expect us to be, but we are beautiful that way. Every mind, every subculture, every ridiculous horrible picture is welcomed here, because the truth is not always a size 2 with long blond hair and huge boobs.

My friend Benji said to me that he didn't think he would fit the demographic. Well everyone fits it. Anime lovers, fanfic writers, death rockers, hippies, drag queens...

A small rant

I want to just write about some things that bother me.
Firstly if you are goth you most likely have problems with friends or family accepting your style. My dear friends love me to death but they still tell me how i would look better if i didn't put on my heavy makeup. That hurts because i love the way i look.
People look at me strange when i walk down the street in a corset and i understand that. But what makes me sad is when people have to ask me why i would dress like that. I dress the way i do because i feel more like myself when i am in my makeup and fit into a corset. I am plus sized and i have body imagery problems but my clothing makes me feel beautiful. The goth culture has made me realize that everyone is accepted no matter their size. My torn tights, my corsets, my makeup - they are all part of who i am. They reflect how i feel as a person, bold and dark.
I am not hiding behind cloths and makeup because i am embarrassed about my body. I am putting my heart on my sleeve for the world to see and i wish that people could see that.

Graveyards

Graveyards: the most classically gothic place you can go (beside a cathedral)
I love the dark heavy stone and the figures of angles. I love mausoleums and graves that stand empty waiting for the coffin.

This is apparently from Barcelona it is a row of mausoleums

and I'm not sure what this is but WTF its awesome :P

well someone is certainly resting in style

Some Makeup Tips

So as most goths do, i wear makeup. it started off as trashy with huge eyeliner and it still is sorta like that but I've started to watch these youtube videos that are a death-send.
Makeup is hard it really is. Just grabbing whatever you can find isn't going to work. As part of a subculture that is heavily in favor of a deathly pale skin tone and big dark eyes we Babybats attempt to do our best. The first attempt for me was scary, really scary. But I'm getting better. And you shall too.

Remember: Experimenting is essential!!!
Here are some designs I worked on

(and yes the art in the background is mine)

Also you don't always need heavy eyeliner.

Here i just used a bright pinkish red lipstick (i prefer lipstick to lipgloss because it is more vibrant)
For my hair (keep in mind that the left side is buzzed)
        - i just wet it and braided it in five sections then i pulled the long front hair back and pinned it

this is my new eyeliner style
its a bit messy and i suck at taking selfies but i really enjoy the look

huge face
well this is a picture from the weekend. its a more dramatic evening look
one side of the hair is slick and short and the other was back combed and then bulled back

this one is sorta fancy but i love how she does the eyes

The next one i really like. Her makeup is really awesome, as you can see, and its not as intense. Its always hard for me to get away with my lovely heavy eyeliner at school so this one is nice and simple

if i was this talented i would totally do my makeup like this too

these look pretty simple
just use some eyeliner and some good black eyeshadow
Mac Cosmetics is said to have really long lasting makeup

Introduction

So i have decided to make a blog for the young goths who are as lost as I am. Im going to try to post outfits i wear, DIY things that i like and videos of bands or tutorials. I am really bad at writing things so it might be a bit choppy at first but i want a place to share what is helping me to find out who i am.
But more about myself. Im a teenager who lives in middle earth. I go to a school were i am the only goth kid and that is hard for me. Im adventurous but i never get out of the house. i love to watch movies, old and new, short or long. I adore music and listen to almost anything but country. Iv been to paris but i want to explore more of the world. I have a dog who is adorable and friends who mean the world to me. I live in a little stone house covered in ivy that has an over grown garden that still seems to grow bigger and bigger each year. I want to share images and videos with people so this is my attempt at making one persons day better.
